Originally renowned as one of Britain's most dedicated crate diggers with a specialism in private press disco and boogie, The Mighty Zaf has spent the last few years flexing his re-editing skills, mostly on Moton (a series associated with the Love Vinyl store he co-founded) and his own imprint, 80s. Here he makes his bow on Newcastle-based Hot Biscuit Recordings, serving up his most expansive collection of scalpel-jobs to date. There's plenty of bona-fide heat on show, from the hybrid disco/boogie excitement of 'Can't Stop Dancing' and the low-slung, horn-heavy disco-funk of 'Lady of the Evening', to the heavy electrofunk squelch of 'Let Me Be Your Queen', the synth-powered jazz-funk pulse of 'Music Is Light' and the Fela Kuti nip-and-tuck that is 'Zombie'.
