The EP marks a label debut for The Mechanical Man aka Nicola Altieri, an artist from Napoli in Italy, which is more usually associated with loopy techno. He however draws on the house of Chicago and Detroit, on dusty old tapes and frayed edges, and cooks up lived in sounds that brim with heart and soul. 'One More' is a balmy and cosy opener, then 'Ramamba' gets rickety and loose like a Moodymann jam. There's beauty in the cymbal design of the Theo Parrish style roughness of 'Reconstructions' and some heavenly late night feels in 'Elastic Blues' and its cosmic synth smears.
