Temu - Running Away

Tugboat Editions regular Temu Bacot has a thing for cover versions. He's previously re-imagined Tears For Fears classic 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' as a luscious, sunset-ready slab of boogie/r&b fusion and re-framed Loose Ends' wonky disco classic 'Is It All Over My Face' as a nostalgic synth-funk bomb. His latest must-check seven inch boasts two more killer covers. On side A he takes on Roy Ayers' 'Running Away', giving it a low-slung P-funk feel via rubbery bass, kaleidoscopic synths and his own Prince-influenced lead vocals. On the reverse, he turns his attention to Devo classic 'Whip It', turning in a gritty, keytar-laden West Coast electrofunk cover. Sensational stuff!
