California native Brian Ellis reconnects with Star Creature's Tim Zawada for a scorching Tugboat Editions 7", led by a cover of the post-disco rarity 'Ease Out'. In true Ellis fashion, every detail of the groove is fussed over-loose-limbed drums, prismatic synths and a vocal delivery that drips with slow-burn sleaze. It's the kind of twilight funk that feels custom-made for an orange-lit roller rink, just warped enough to keep it from sliding into pastiche. On the flip, 'Track 02' runs the same circuitry through a slightly murkier lens, fuzzier on the edges, with a heavier, more inward pull. Both sides shimmer with fidelity to the original source, yet feel unmistakably rooted in the Star Creature world: retro-futurist, emotionally dialled-in, and ripe for the right dancefloor.
